June 2022

Saturday Jun. 4thThe board planning meeting to set dates and activities for the 2022-23 Camellia season. Please send your ideas of what you would like the club to provide to pensacolacamellia@gmail.com.

August 2022

Tuesday Aug. 16thTo kick off the new season, we will have a “Welcome Back Picnic” at the Garden Center, 1850 N. 9th Avenue, Pensacola Florida. Please call Louise at 850-780-0410 and let her know if you are coming so we have a head count for our meal. Bring a dessert of your choice to share with members. Social is at 6pm, dinner buffet at 6:30pm.

September 2022

Tuesday Sept. 20thGeneral Meeting – Program: “Getting Your Camellias Ready”, to include a demo on potting air-layers and root cutting. There will be gib available for members. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

October 2022

Saturday Oct. 15th – ALL HANDS NEEDED! This is a very BIG and Important Work Day at the Shade House starting at 9:00am. We will be potting our harvested air layers, spraying camellias, transferring plants from the right side to the left side of the shade house, fertilizing, and general clean up. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

Tuesday Oct. 18thGeneral Meeting – Program: “Why we Gib’. You will need to ‘gib’ 7 weeks prior to our show date (1st application Oct 22nd) to have your camellias ready to produce blooms for our December 10th show. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Friday Oct. 21st The Gulf Coast Camellia Society Conference begins with reception and dinner at the Mobile Botanical Garden starting at 5pm. This is open to non-members, members and their guest.

Saturday Oct. 22ndGulf Coast Camellia Society Conference with Educational programs, history and tradition begins at 9am. Detail registration information will come later, to include a full day of events that you will want to attend.

Saturday Oct. 29thUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9am. We will be gibbing and general cleaning up of the garden. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

November 2022

Tuesday Nov. 15thGeneral Meeting – Program: ‘Sasanqua the other Species’. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program. Please bring in your toy donation for “Toys for Tots” that we will use in place of show prizes for our December Camellia Show winners.

Saturday Nov. 19thUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9am to 11am. We will be gibbing and doing general cleanup. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

Friday Dec. 9thShow set up – at Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio located at 1000 College Boulevard. (They are located across from the Pensacola International Airport, on the corner of College Blvd. and 9th Ave.) Time and details will be in the November newsletter.

Saturday Dec. 10thPensacola Camellia Club 84th Annual Camellia Show at at The Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio along with Plant Sales. Exhibitors start time is 7:00am – 10:00am; Judging begins at 10:30am – 1:00pm, Open to the Public to enjoy all of the blooms 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

January 2023

Tuesday Jan. 17thGeneral Meeting: ‘Grafting Camellias for that hard to propagate reticulate that you must have’. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

February 2023

Friday Feb 3rd – Set up for Community Novice Show at the Downtown Library located at 239 N. Spring St., Pensacola, Florida 32502 starting at 3:00 pm – 4:00pm.

Saturday Feb 4thPensacola Camellia Club to host Community Novice Show and Plant Sale at the Downtown Library located at 239N. Spring St., Pensacola, Florida 32502. Everyone is invited to bring their camellia blooms to compete for prizes in various categories starting at 9:00am. For more information, go to Activities, Community Camellia Show on our website.

Thursday Feb 9th‘Salute to the Winter Rose, Camellias’ at V. Paul’s @4pm. All gardeners & camellia lovers, come join us from 4:30- 6pm for a conversation about the care of camellias. Happy Hour prices on wine to salute the winter rose.

Tuesday Feb. 21stGeneral Meeting: Jane Benson will present “Who Were These Pensacola Camellias Name After”. A historical look into past member’s camellias that are registered with the American Camellia Society. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Saturday Feb. 25thUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 10:00am to 12:00am. We will be doing any necessary clean up before the garden tours. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

Sunday Feb. 26th – Pensacola Camellia Club will welcome the public to our UWF Camellia Garden, provide air layering and pruning demonstrations, and have plants available for sale starting at Noon to 4:00 pm. March 2023

Saturday Mar. 11thCamellia Garden Tour at members home. More information will come as this event is planned.

Tuesday Mar. 21st – Award Banquet at V. Paul’s Italian Ristorante, 29 Palafox Place, Pensacola, Florida. The 2023-2024 Officers and Board Members will be sworn in, T. Morris Scholarship Award, and ‘Person of The Year’ to be announced, along with Special Camellia plants for auction. Cash bar will open at 5:30pm with Happy Hour prices all night on alcohol, wine, and beer, followed by dinner at 6:30pm. More information will be in the February newsletter.

April 2023

Saturday Apr. 8th – Air layering at UWF Camellia Garden starting at 9:00am to Noon. Greg Taylor will bring the supplies needed for air layering, just show and help. Bring your water bottles and gloves.

Saturday Apr. 15th – Air layering layering at University of Florida Milton campus starting at 1pm. Greg Taylor will bring the supplies needed for air layering, just show and help. Bring your water bottles and gloves.

Tuesday Apr. 18thGeneral Meeting program, “to be announced”. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Saturday Apr. 22ndUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9:00am to 12:00pm. If you have wondered how to reduce large camellia plants, John Davy will lead a plant reduction demonstration. We will have members on hand to explain air layers and inside pruning of plants before we all get to work at the garden. Come watch and learn so you can improve your own yard with these methods.
