Tuesday Aug. 21st – The new season starts with a picnic at the Garden Center. Please call T. Morris at 850-746-4080 and let her know if you are coming if you did not sign up at the April meeting. Please bring a side dish or dessert item of your choice to share with your fellow camellia members. Social starts at 6:00 p.m., dinner buffet at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday Sept. 1st – Work Day at UWF Camellia Garden 9:00am to Noon. Come help us clean up the garden for the October GCCS conference. We will be ‘gibbing’ so that we have early blooms for our visitors.
Tuesday Sept. 18th – First meeting of the year, program will cover ‘BIGGER BLOOMS’, gibbing demonstration to have early blooms for our UWF Camellia Garden tours in October and December. Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.
Friday Oct. 12th – Harvest air-layers that you did in the spring at various gardens. Details to follow in future newsletter.
Saturday Oct. 13th – ALL HANDS NEEDED! This is a very BIG and Important Work Day at the Shade House starting at 9:00am. We will be potting our harvested air layers, spraying camellias, transferring plants from right side to the left side of the shade house, taking inventory, fertilizing and general clean up. Bring your gloves and water bottles.
Tuesday Oct. 15th – 16th – PCC will host the Gulf Coast Camellia Society Conference in downtown Pensacola, Florida at The Palafox House, located at 196 Palafox Street. Registration will be mailed by GCCS to members at the beginning of August. Please join us Tuesday evening at V. Paul’s Italian Ristorante for guest speaker Brie Arthur who appears on PBS show ‘Growing a Greener World’ and author of ‘Foodscape Revolution‘. Detailed information will be in the newsletter.
Friday Nov. 2nd – PCC will present “Growing Camellias 101”, as a program for UWF Leisure Learning members followed by a tour of the UWF Camellia Garden. Program time is 1:00pm, in building 86 of UWF campus.
Tuesday Nov. 20th – General Meeting program “‘Companion Plants for camellias”. Please bring in your toy donation for “Toys for Tots” that we will use in place of show prizes for our December Camellia Show winners. Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.
Tuesday Dec. 4th – General Meeting for “Camellia Show Preparation,” we will finalize all jobs for setup and the show at UWF Conference Center, with Garden Tour. Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.
Friday Dec. 7th – Set up at UWF Conference Center 3:00pm followed by Judges’ Dinner 6:00pm at Azalea Trace, 10100 Hillview Dr, Pensacola, Fl.
Saturday Dec. 8th – PCC 80th Annual Camellia Show at UWF Conference Center, with UWF Camellia Garden Tour and plant sales. Exhibitors start time is 7:30am – 10:30am, Judging 10:30am – Noon, Public Viewing 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
Saturday Jan. 12th – Road Trip to Tallahassee Camellia Show with a stop at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens. More detail to follow in the Newsletter.
Saturday Jan. 26th – YMCA Grafting demonstration and Plant sale 9:00am to Noon. Location: YMCA 3215 Langley Ave, Pensacola, Florida.
Wednesday Jan. 30th – Road Trip to Jim Smelley’s greenhouses for your own selection of camellia for grafting. More detail to follow in the Newsletter.
Tuesday Feb. 19th – General Meeting, Guest speaker to cover ‘Amaryllis & Day Lilies as Companion Plants’ and Christi Hankins will cover history of the club part 2. Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.
Friday Mar. 1st – Set up for the Community Camellia Show at the downtown Pensacola Library at 239 Spring Street at 3:00pm.
Saturday Mar. 2nd – Community Camellia Show for Novice Gardeners with Plant Sales starting at 10:00am.
Tuesday Mar. 19th – Please make your reservation with T. Morris at 850-746-4080 for PCC Annual Banquet at V. Paul’s Italian Ristorante, cash bar opens at 5:30 pm, with dinner at 6:30pm. Evening will include Plant Auction, installation of the next seasons board members and Person of the Year Award.
