June 2024

Saturday June 1st – Officers and Board Member meeting to plan the following season of events. Please share with them your ideas for meeting’s program and events.

August 2024

Tuesday August 20th – To kick off the new season, we will have a “Welcome Back Indoor Picnic” at the Garden Center, 1850 N. 9th Avenue, Pensacola Florida. Please call Louise at 850-780-0410, let her know if you are coming, we need a head count for the club to order the main entrée. If your last name starts with A- L please bring a dessert item and if your last name starts with M-Z bring a side dish to share with members. Social is at 6pm, dinner buffet at 6:30pm.

September 2024

Tuesday Sept. 17thGeneral Meeting – Program: John Davy presents, “All Things Propagation”, to include cuttings, seeds, modified grafting. For our newer members, a demo of potting air-layers, disbudding and gibbing. There will be gib available for members. Location: Garden Center, 1850 N. 9th Ave, Pensacola, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Saturday Sept. 28thUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9:00am. We will be doing general cleaning of the garden. Please bring your gloves, rakes, knee pads and water bottles.

October 2024

Saturday Oct. 12thSales at the Shade House (3279 Pine Forest, Cantonment, FL) hours 9-3pm. Our neighbor to the north of us, Pine Forest Assembly Church is having their 10th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival that day. We will open the Shade House gate and hope for passerby to stop in to make a purchase. If you can help for a few hours Trumin would appreciate any assistance.

Tuesday Oct. 15thGeneral meeting– Program: Peggy DeArmon presents, ‘Japanese Maples make great companion plants for camellias.’ We will have ‘gib’ available at the meeting. You will need to ‘gib’ 7 weeks prior to our show date (1st application Oct 26th) to have your camellias ready to produce blooms for our December 14th show.  Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Friday Oct. 18th & Saturday 19th – We are excited to host the Gulf Coast Camellia Society Conference against the stunning backdrop of Pensacola Beach at the Holiday Inn Beach Resort. This kickoff event for the camellia season, promises the perfect blend of learning and leisure with fellow camellia lovers from the various Gulf Coast States.

Saturday Oct. 26thALL HANDS NEEDED! This is a very BIG and Important Work Day at the Shade House starting at 9am. We will be potting our harvested air layers, spraying camellias, fertilizing, and general clean up. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

November 2024

Saturday Nov. 2nd – POTTING OF AIR-LAYERS will take place at PANHANDLE GROWERS, INC located at Southridge Road in Milton (Allentown, FL 32570) starting at 8am or when you get there. Pull into the property make a right turn and drive to the south toward the grass parking area just west of the soil mix area. Bring pruners, gloves, anything you want to eat or drink, chair and a good attitude for a fun time of camaraderie.

Saturday Nov. 9thUWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9:00am. We will be gibbing and general cleaning of the garden.  Please bring your gloves, rakes, knee pads and water bottles.

Tuesday Nov. 19thGeneral meeting– Program: Skip Vogelsang presents, ‘What Judges Look For In A Winning Bloom.’ Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program. Please bring in your toy donation for “Toys for Tots” that we will use in place of show prizes for our December Camellia Show winners.

December 2024

Friday Dec. 6th – Pensacola Camellia Club at ‘St. Christopher’s Caravan’, 3200 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola selling camellias and promoting upcoming events.  If you can help between 9am -4pm please contact Louise at 850-780-0410. Please bring a chair, dress for the weather and we will greet the shoppers with camellias and smiles!

Tuesday Dec. 10th – General Meeting: Christi Hankins/ Show Chairperson presenting “Where your help is needed for our Camellia Show”. We will finalize all jobs for setup and the show.  Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.  Please bring in your toy donation for “Toys for Tots” that we will use in place of show prizes for our December Camellia Show winners.

Friday Dec. 13th – Show set up at Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio located at 1000 College Boulevard. (They are located across from the Pensacola International Airport, on the corner of College Blvd. and 9th Ave.)  Shade House at noon to load show supplies will proceed to the Amos Performance Center, with an estimated arrival time of 1:30- 2pm to unload and set up.

Saturday Dec. 14th – Pensacola Camellia Club 86th Annual Camellia Show & Plant Sales    Location: Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio 1000 College Blvd, Exhibitors start time is 7:00am – 10:00am; Judging begins at 10:30am – 1:00pm, Open to the Public to enjoy all of the blooms 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

January 2025

Jan 2nd – 5th – The American Camellia Society (ACS) Convention will be held in Gainesville, Florida from January 2nd through January 5th, 2025. You can sign up for the event by going to the ACS website and clicking on the rotating photo or banner. The ACS Convention Schedule of Events/ Program and fee are listed there.

Tuesday Jan. 21st – General Meeting Program: George & Jane Davis to present ‘ The History of The Davis Nursery.’ Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Saturday Jan. 25th – Pensacola Camellia Club at Japanese American New Year Celebration at Wright Place selling camellias and promoting upcoming events. If you can help between 9am-4pm please contact Louise at 850-780-0410, be aware there is an admission fee.

Wednesday Jan. 29th – ‘Salute to the Winter Rose, Camellias’ at V. Paul’s – 4:00 pm. All gardeners & camellia lovers, come join us from 4:30- 6pm for a conversation about the care of camellias. Happy Hour prices on wine to salute the winter rose.

February 2025

Friday Feb. 14th – Join Us ‘Cocoa & Camellia’ at UWF Camellia Garden, 1000 University Pkwy at 10am. The UWF Retired Employees Association and Pensacola Camellia Club members come together to celebrate the Garden with UWF President, Martha Saunders.

Tuesday Feb. 18th – General Meeting Program: Forrest Latta presents, ‘Mark Cannon- King of the Gulf Coast Scion Trade.’ If time permits John Davy will provide a grafting workshop for those interested. Location: Garden Center, 6:30pm social, 7:00pm program.

Saturday Feb. 22th – UWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 10:00am to 12:00am. We will be doing any necessary clean up before the garden tours. Please bring your gloves and water bottles.

Sunday Feb. 23rdPensacola Camellia Club will welcome the public to our UWF Camellia Garden Tour, provide air layering and pruning demonstrations, and have plants available for sale starting at Noon to 4:00 pm. March 2025

Friday Mar. 7th – Set up for Community Novice Show at the downtown Public Library on Spring Street starting at 3:00 pm – 4:00pm

Saturday Mar. 8th – Pensacola Camellia Club to host Annual Community Camellia  Show and Plant Sale at the downtown Public Library on 239 Spring St, Pensacola, FL. Everyone is invited to bring their camellia blooms to compete for prizes in various categories starting at 9:00am.  For more information about the Community Novice Show, go to Activities, Community Camellia Show on our website.

Tuesday Mar. 18th – Award Banquet at V. Paul’s Italian Ristorante.  The 2025-2026 Officers and Board Members will be sworn in, T. Morris Scholarship Award, and ‘Person of The Year’ to be announced, along with Special Camellias for Auction. Cash bar will open at 5:30pm with Happy Hour prices all night on alcohol, wine, and beer, followed by dinner at 6:30pm. More information will be in the February newsletter.

April 2025

Friday Apr. 4th & 5thPensacola Camellia Club will be selling camellias at UF/IFAS and Pensacola State College Milton Campus, ‘Spring Festival of Flowers’ sales event for the weekend. If you can help a few hours 9am- 4pm, let Trumin know 850.375.4541, bring a chair and dress for the weather to greet the shoppers.

Saturday Apr. 5th– Air layering at UWF Garden starting at 9:00am to Noon. Greg Taylor will bring the supplies needed for air layering, just show and help. Bring your water bottles and gloves.

Tuesday Apr. 15th– General Meeting program, “To be announce.” Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00 pm program.

Saturday Apr. 26th– UWF Camellia Garden Work Day starting at 9:00am to 12:00pm. If you have wondered how to reduce large camellia plants, John Davy will lead a plant reduction demonstration. We will have members on hand to explain air layers and inside pruning of plants before we all get to work at the garden. Come watch and learn so you can improve your own yard with these methods.
