Hello, That is a seed pod. If left on the plant it will dry and crack open to exposed the seeds within that you can then plant. Seed pods come in all sizes, some members use a net bag around the seeds to collect them before they fall to the ground. Another method of propagation, some years you will find them on your plant others not. Here is a link if you want more information: propagation-by-seed.
